Orinda Stehr

Orinda Stehr, 87, of Caledonia, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at the Caledonia Lutheran Home. She was born February 13, 1915, in Crooked Creek township, MN, to Herman and Emma (Meyer) Schuldt. On December 6, 1939, Orinda married Walter Stehr at Peace United Church of Christ in Crooked Creek. Together they farmed in Winnebago township for many years. During this time, Orinda was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Eitzen where she served on the ladies aid. In 1968 Orinda and Walter moved to Mequon, WI, where they both worked at the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. In 1972 they moved to Onalaska, WI, and on December 14, 1974, Walter preceded Orinda in death.

Orinda continued to live in Onalaska until 1978 when she moved to Caledonia. Since that time, she has been a member of St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia. Orinda enjoyed crocheting and custom sewing, and has made several clothing items such as coats and wedding dresses. She also has made many other items for her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris (Gordon) Klankowski, Caledonia, Irene (Carl) Orlowski, Milwaukee, WI; a son, Delbert (Sondra) Stehr, Caledonia; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vernetta (Pete) Niedfeldt, Bangor, WI, and Wilma (Harry) Wallen, Onalaska; a brother, Wilbert (Margaret) Schuldt, Freeburg; a sister-in-law, Agnes Schuldt, Boscobel, WI; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Orinda was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard; a great-grandson, Philip Goetzinger; her twin sister, Melinda Kohlmeier; and two brothers, Alton and Harold Schuldt.

Services were held Saturday, April 20, at 11 am from St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church, Caledonia, with the Rev. Tom Schultz officiating. Burial was in Zion Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Eitzen. Friends called at St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10 am until the time of service. Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, was in charge of arrangements.
