Services for Robert ìBobî Schlemmer will be 10:30 am, Thursday, April 25, at First Lutheran Church in Volga, SD, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Wednesday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga. He died Sunday, April 21, 2002 at the Brookings Hospital. Robert Clark Schlemmer was born February 25, 1937 to Christian and Anna (Rust) Schlemmer at Thief River Falls, MN. He grew up and attended school in Vesta. Robert served in the U.S. Navy from December 28, 1954 to December 23, 1957, where he was stationed at San Diego, Midway Island, and on the U.S.S. Spinks. On October 11, 1958 Robert married Ellen Lewis at Vesta. After their marriage they lived in Redwood Falls. They moved to California in 1964 and Long Prairie, MN in 1976 before settling in Volga in 1984. Robert and Ellen were former owners of the Starlite Lanes Bowling in Caledonia. Robert was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga and the Burrows-Young American Legion Post No. 114. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Ellen of Volga; two sons, Rob Schlemmer of Sartell, MN and Jeffrey and his fiancee, Jaime Nelson, of Jefferson, SD; a daughter, Jacque Novack of Cedar Rapids, IA; five brothers, Raymond (Erma) Schlemmer of Minnetonka, twin brother Richard (Carol) Schlemmer of Alexandria, Russell (Ruby) Schlemmer of Brainerd, Gerald (JoAnn) Schlemmer of Coon Rapids, and Vernon Schlemmer of Osakis; four sisters, Gladys (Lowell) Hellie of Cottonwood, Marion (Richard) Epema of Pennock, Donna Hruska of Lake Elmo, and Erna Raymond of Fridley; and two grandchildren.
