Thelma Flatten Leine died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at the Northfield Care Center, Northfield, MN. She was born November 6, 1914, at Dallas, WI, the second of seven children of John and Louise Jensen Flatten. She grew up in Sheldon, graduated from Houston High School and the Spring Grove teachers training school. She taught in several country schools in Houston County. In the 1940ís she moved to rural Washington and Dakota county areas to continue her teaching. She met her future husband, Hilman Leine, while teaching in Eureka Township District 49 School located in rural Farmington, MN. On October 6, 1949, she married Hilman Leine and to that union their only son, Oliver, was born and raised. They lived for 50 years on the Leine farm located in Farmington. After her marriage, Thelma did substitute teaching for several years before becoming a full time homemaker, although she remained a teacher and story teller all her life. She was very active in Christiania Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and leading the church womenís groups in bible studies. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, brother Lloyd, sisters Grace Solum and Leve Johnsrud and her husband Hilman. She is survived by her son, Oliver, who remains on the family farm; her sisters, Pearl Armanini, Lillian Bowell and June Lambert; and several nieces and nephews.
