School, city, approach developers with proposal
Posted: 4/30/02
The ISD #299 School Board and Caledonia City Council were still waiting as of Monday evening to hear whether Ma Cal Developers accepted a proposal which would provide access to the new school via Esch Drive.
The two government bodies met in a joint session April 16 to decide what action to take regarding a new access road. Currently, the only road leading to the school is Gjere Avenue, which winds past the West Main Townhomes and a mobile home park. The school board recently approved $25,000 in expenditures to improve that road.
The proposal, delivered to the developers, who include Fred and Gary Kruckow and John Esch, includes the purchase by the school of a 60 ft. right of way from the east boundary line of the school property to the west line of the Ma Cal Industrial Park, about 311 feet, at a cost of $3,218; asks that the developers complete the dedicated portion of Esch Drive to city specifications; and that the remaining costs of finishing Esch Drive be shared between the school, city and developers. The developersí cost would not exceed $30,000. Construction would include sanitary sewer, curb and gutter, road base and surfacing.
