Sylvia Meitrodt, 90

Sylvia A. Meitrodt, 90, formerly of Caledonia, MN and St. Paul, MN, died Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at the Martin Luther Manor, Bloomington, MN. She was born March 23, 1912, in Spring Grove, MN, to Arthur and Amanda (Myhro) Glasrud. Sylvia is a graduate of Spring Grove High School. On June 29, 1933, she married Martin Meitrodt and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1974. They farmed in Wilmington township until 1949.

Sylvia and Martin then moved to Austin, MN, where they owned and operated a restaurant. In 1951, they returned to Caledonia where Sylvia ran the restaurant in the Caledonia Hotel. It was also during this time that Sylvia attended Winona State University where she would receive her Bachelors Degree in teaching. Sylvia then taught elementary education in various country schools as well as in Spring Grove. In 1962, Sylvia and Martin moved outside of St. Paul to Little Canada, MN, where Sylvia taught school until her retirement in 1977. She then spent time traveling which she enjoyed. Sylvia also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandsons.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Sandra Meitrodt of Bloomington; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; a sister, Lillian (Don) Stenehjem, Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gregory Meitrodt; and four sisters, Pernella, Dorothy, Marcella and Delores.

Services were held Saturday, August 10, 1 pm from Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia with Rev. Elizabeth Stempinski officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends called at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 am until the time of service.
