Boys, ages 6 and 10, suspected in thefts

The Caledonia Police Department is investigating thefts related to car break-ins at the Caledonia Lutheran Home after two boys, ages 10 and 6, were discovered going through vehicles.

The boys were interrupted on Wednesday, August 7, at 5:15 p.m. by Nick Gavin of Caledonia.

The 6-year-old claimed that he was dragged over to the cars by the older boy.

Earlier that day a woman reported that items had been taken from her vehicle.

Owners of other vehicles reported having change stolen.

On Wednesday, August 7, at 11:00 a.m. Joshua Twite of North Pine Street reported the theft of his Mongoose Hoop D silver bike. It had pegs in back and no brakes.

Burglary at B & D Sealcoating

B & D Sealcoating of 312 Ramsey Lane reported the theft of $500-$600 in cash from their business that occurred on the weekend of August 3. It is unknown how entry was gained into the building since all of the doors were locked.

On Monday, August 12, the Houston County Sheriffís Office reported an attempted break-in to their garage located behind the jail. There were boot marks on the door and the door appeared to be jarred.

Vandalism

On Saturday, August 10, Robert Lemke of East Adams reported a car being vandalized with chocolate syrup and shaving cream.

He said two other people reported similar vandalism. One vehicle also had syrup and cream on it, and in the other instance, someone had sprayed the outline of the car on the pavement in front of the house. Lemke said it might possibly be a prank from friends.

On Wednesday, August 7, at 9:45 p.m., someone reported a small fire at the Houston County Fairgrounds. Apparently someone had poured some type of fuel across the road and lit it on fire. Three juvenile males were seen, two were wearing dark clothing and one was riding a bike wearing a dark shirt and light colored pants.

On Tuesday, August 6, at 5:15 p.m. Tru-Gas on Hwy. 44 reported that someone had been tampering with their tanks.

DWI, underage consumption

On Saturday, August 10, a La Crescent man was cited for second degree DWI on Hwy. 16 south of La Crescent. at 2:34 a.m.

On Sunday, August 11, at 4:06 a.m., a La Crosse man was ticketed for fourth degree DWI and open bottle.

A 17-year-old Caledonia boy was cited for minor consumption after he was discovered near Caledonia Haulers on Saturday, August 10, at 12:12 a.m. away from the scene of an accident which occurred on CSAH 1 and Hwy. 76. He had no shoes on and his feet were covered with grass and mud. His pants were wet from the knees down. The accident was being handled by the Minnesota State Patrol. More details on the accident were not available.

Over the weekend, a 41-year-old Holmen man was ticketed for fourth degree DWI and speeding .

Accidents

On Friday, August 9, at 12:24 a.m., a one vehicle rollover was reported on Sanden Road.

The Houston County Sheriffís Office, Caledonia Ambulance Service, and Caledonia Fire Department responded to the scene. The juvenile from Brownsville was transported to St. Francis Medical Center and cited for underage consumption, open bottle and careless driving. He was treated and released.

On Wednesday, August 7, at 8:40 p.m., Lucas Schroeder, 16, of Caledonia reported an accident. He lost control of his vehicle at the corner of Loverís Drive and CSAH 5 and went into the ditch. He and his passengers were not injured.
