Hein to run against DavidsPosted: 8/6/02 Al Hein, a farmer from Mabel, is running as a Democrat against six-term incumbent Republican Greg Davids, Preston, for Minnesota House Seat 31B. Hein commented, ěI have a keen interest in making our part of Minnesota a better place to live. I believe the recent tax surplus was spent poorly and most of it never found its way to our corner of the state. Our schools are short of cash, our transportation system is in need of repair, and our tax base in unable to support the kind of services we need and should expect in our area. I believe itís time for a fresh face with new ideas in St. Paul. Now with redistricting in Minnesota, our legislature has become more urbanized than ever and party structure in Minnesota is more powerful than ever. Itís time to send someone to St. Paul who is independent enough to think for himself, yet stands together with all those who live, work and farm in District 31B.î Hein, who is married and has three children, attended Winona State University and spent six years in the Army Reserve. He is a director of the Pro-Corn Ethanol Co-op, a member of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, a member of Farm Bureau, the Mabel Lions, American Legion, Hesper-Mabel Historical Society and is active in the annual Steam Engine Days celebration. Houston County was previously served in the state legilslature by Michelle Rifenberg (R-La Crescent), but through redistricting most of the county is now part of District 31B. Rifenberg decided not to seek her partyís endorsement. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
