Thefts, damage to property reportedPosted: 8/6/02 By Shannon McKinney Several thefts and damage to property was reported to the Houston County Sheriffís office and Caledonia Police Department in the past week. On Saturday, August 3, Hoskins Electric reported the theft of a dozen guard rails. A neighbor reported seeing a white Chevy S10 pick-up with two to three males in it near the scene. On Saturday, August 3, Brian Carpenter of Caledonia reported that his vehicle was broken into while it was parked at the Hokah Coop. On Thursday, August 1, Earl Grenier of Houston reported the theft of a bike. On Thursday, August 1, Wendy Schaitel of Hokah reported that someone had placed tools and bullets in her car, and had taken her car stereo. Also, jumper cables were found in her gym bag. On Monday, July 29, Harriet Ellingson of Spring Grove reported that a Norwegian flag valued at $100 was stolen from her yard. Also someone had tried to remove an eagle that was mounted on a decorative rock in her yard. On Saturday, August 3, Dairy Queen in Caledonia reported that kids were witnessed stealing frozen treats from the freezer in the store. On Friday, August 2, Kari Schwirtz of Caledonia reported that while her vehicle was parked at the Lutheran Home in Caledonia, it was entered and her 35-85 mm silver zoom camera, and Nokia phone were stolen. Terry Thomas, of Caledonia, reported the theft of her sonís silver scooter valued at $25 from their yard. The theft occurred between July 23 and August 1. On Wednesday, July 31, Winifred Sheehan of Caledonia reported that a someone was throwing walnuts at the side of her house causing damage. DWI, drugs On Wednesday, July 31, four juveniles between the ages of 16 and 17 years old were cited for underage consumption after the vehicle they were in was pulled over on Old Hwy. Drive in Caledonia. There were three females and one male occupant. All tested positive for alcohol. On Wednesday, July 31, a Caledonia man was cited for no proof of insurance, possession of marijuana and also about 1/4 pound of a substance suspected to be opium. The substance will be tested. Also, a La Crescent man was cited for possession of marijuana on Saturday, August 3. Other reports On Monday, August 5, Jared Dunn, of Caledonia reported finding a 23-year-old man sleeping in his vehicle. The subject was cited for tampering with a motor vehicle. On Friday, August 3, B&M of Caledonia reported illegal dumping at their service station.
