Input sought for scenic byway celebrationPosted: 12/10/02 We are looking for people to get involved in the planning of the celebration of our newly nominated National Scenic Byway, Minnesota State Highway 16. The third planning meeting is being held on Tuesday December 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the La Crescent Visitors Center. Volunteers from all of SE MN are invited. The celebration is scheduled for May 3, 2003. Decisions will be made going forward, if you would like to participate please plan on attending. This yearís theme is ìHave a Clear Look at our Byway.î We hope to have local area students clean the windshields of the cars and handing out our packets of information about the byway on Saturday. Plans have been made to include a rummage sale and torch (flag) passing from city to city along the byway / corridor. We are looking for ideas, and want to encourage each community along the byway / corridor to participate in a style that reflects their community. Meetings will be held each month in a different community in the corridor. We encourage people to try to attend each meeting, since decisions are made by those present. We are also looking for city ambassadors to represent each city, these ambassadors are responsible for informing us about the things that make their community special and relaying information back to their city to keep them informed and involved. The ambassadors will be asked to participate in a number of community events to educate and promote our scenic byways and its resources. The next meeting will be held in Grand Meadow in January.
