Caledonia Police would like to remind drivers that, within Caledonia city limits, vehicles are allowed to park on the street in one spot for no more than 48 hours, unless otherwise posted. CPD has received a number of complaints, and Chief Duane St. Mary said that the 48-hour parking limit is especially important in winter months, since vehicles left unattended on city streets for several days can be a hindrance to snow removal.

Car fire near airport

Caledonia Police were called to the scene of a car fire on State Hwy. 44 near the Houston County Airport in the early morning hours of Monday, December 9. The vehicle, driven by Gregory Engelhart of Eitzen, was towed after the blaze had been extinguished. No further information was available.

On December 6, La Crescent Police responded to a one-vehicle rollover on State Hwy. 16 just south of La Crescent. The driver, Kevin Terpstra of Hokah, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Franciscan Skemp Medical Center.

Padlocked tree stand stolen

Danny Twite of Sheldon Township reported to the Houston County Sheriffís Office on December 5 that someone stole his portable tree stand, which was chained and padlocked. Thirteen of the 14 steel peg steps leading up to the stand were also taken. Though there are at present no suspects in the case, a spokesman for the Sheriffís Office indicated it is likely that a hunter took the tree stand.

Five $20 bills were reported stolen from the residence of Lynne Triggs of East Park Street on December 6. She told Caledonia Police that the money was taken at a time when her keys were missing and she was keeping the door to her apartment unlocked. Triggs suggested that she had pinpointed a suspect, but stated that there were any number of people who could have taken the money.

A wallet was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on North Kingston Street on December 4; Melissa Twite told Caledonia authorities that the vehicle had been unlocked and the wallet was in plain view at the time of the theft.

On December 8, Donald Flatten of Houston contacted HCSO to report that $160-190 was taken from his pickup truck. No further information was available.
