Judith Betz

Judith Kaye ìPeteî Betz, 54, of Caledonia, died Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at her home, after a long hard courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 3, 1948, in Caledonia to Frank and Helen (Ingvaldson) Betz. The family moved to Sheldon township in 1951 where Judy would live her entire life. She was a member of St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church of Caledonia, where she attended St. Johnís grade school, then graduated in 1966 from the new high school.

Judy was a farmer from day one. She loved riding the tractor with daddy, when he would allow it. She also loved playing with the calves or riding her pony, Teddy. Judyís love of animals and the farm continued to grow through 4-H. She went on to raising and showing Registered Appaloosa Horses. For 25 years Judy showed these beautiful, lovable, intelligent animals. Also during this time and and before, she enjoyed listening to country and western music and spending good times with good friends. Judy loved field work, watching fawns play and little turkeys scamper throughout the hay strips. She also loved watching the first field of corn break ground and the smell of new cut hay drying in the sun. Besides farming, Judy liked to hunt, especially for that whitetail trophy buck. She also worked at the sales barn for over 30 years.

Survivors include her mother, Helen; her twin sister, Joyce Betz, Caledonia; a sister, Betty (Mel) Moe, West Salem, WI; a brother, Allen ìShortyî (Jean) Betz, Caledonia; eight nieces and nephews; and 10 great-nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her father, Frank W. Betz.

Services were held Saturday, December 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church with Tom Schultz officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends called at St. Johnís Ev. Lutheran Church on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
