Accident on Kingston Street sure to stir the superstitious

Friday the 13th had just ended, but no one told the catñ Caledonia Police received a report in the early hours of Saturday, December 14 that a vehicle had struck a parked car on Kingston Street after the driver had swerved to avoid a cat. It was unclear if either vehicleís mirrors were cracked in the incident, but a quick survey of the scene revealed that no ladders were driven under prior to the collision.

Auto theft

The Houston County Sheriffís Office received a report on December 11 that a Dodge Spirit, owned by Deborah Schlegel, was stolen from Tri-State Auto on State Hwy. 16 in Hokah. It is believed that the vehicle was taken sometime between December 7 and December 10. The vehicle, which had a faulty head gasket, could not have been driven far from Hokah without becoming overheated. Authorities have not named a suspect in the case; Chief Blank of Hokah Police is conducting the investigation.

La Crescent authorities were summoned by La Crosse County dispatch radio to assist with a traffic stop that terminated on the Minnesota side of the MN-WI border on December 14. The stopped vehicle had been stolen from La Crosse County; La Crescent police arrested the man for DWI and transported him to police headquarters, where he refused to submit to a breath test. He was then brought to the Houston County Jail; according to Houston County authorities, it is likely the man will face charges in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Report of assault on Main Street

Caledonia Police responded to a report of assault and disorderly conduct along East Main Street in the early hours of December 11. The incident ended in the arrest of a 32-year old Caledonia man, who was cited for DWI and transported Rochester Detox. No further information was available.

Minor accident in school lot

Sometime during school hours on December 11, a vehicle parked at the new middle/high school sustained approximately $250-300 worth of damage to the passenger door. There are no suspects as of yet; Caledonia Police are investigating the incident.
