Hilda Morken

Hilda Amanda Morken, 92, Spring Grove, died Saturday, December 28, 2002, at Tweeten Health Services, Spring Grove.

She was born February 28, 1910, in rural Spring Grove to Hans and Anna (Reitan) Sundet. She was a lifelong resident of the area.

She was a 1927 graduate of Spring Grove High School, and obtained a teaching degree from Normal Teachersí Training in Spring Grove and Winona. She taught in rural schools in the Spring Grove area.

On August 21, 1930, she married Tilford Morken in the Riceford Parsonage, rural Spring Grove. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1993. The couple farmed in Black Hammer Township until their retirement in 1984.

Mrs. Morken sang in a quartet many years ago, and enjoyed singing.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Black Hammer, and its womenís groups.

Surivors include a son, Allan (Lois) Morken of Spring Grove; a daughter, Audrey Vatland of Mabel; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lowell Vatland; two brothers, Leander and Arthur; two sisters, Alva Ike and Myrtle Gilbertson; and a granddaughter-in-law, Jaclyn Morken.

Funeral services were Tuesday, December 31, at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Black Hammer. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pastor Mary L. Waudby officiated. Friends called Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Roble Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.
