Melvin Heintz

Melvin J. Heintz, 78, of Caledonia, died Monday, December 24, 2001 at the La Crescent Health Care Center. He was born June 19, 1923 in Mayville Township, MN to Charles and Mathilda (Kuecker) Heintz. Melvin served in the United States Army Air Corps during WW II. On May 28, 1949 he married Marilyn Whitlock at the Presbyterian Church Manse in Caledonia. Melvin was employed with Paper Calmenson in La Crosse for 37 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the former Presbyterian Church in Caledonia where he served as Church Elder. Melvin enjoyed visiting with people. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marilyn of Caledonia; four children, Diana (Duane) Peterson of Waterville, Debra (Jeff) Swenson of Mabel, Darrell (Janice) Heintz, Dawn Sultze and Butch Meyer, Caledonia; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leota Lampert, Caledonia and Charlotte (Davindar) Singh, New Delhi, India; two brothers, Lyle Heintz, Caledonia, and Norman (Irene) Heintz, Bloomington; and a sister-in-law, Carol (Gerry) Sampson, Elgin, IL.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

Services were Friday, December 28, at 2 p.m. from United Methodist Church, Caledonia, with Rev. Clair Wilcoxon officiating. Burial with military rites given were at the Evergreen Cemetery. Friends called at the Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, on Thursday from 6-8 pm and at the church on Friday from 1 pm until the time of the service.
