Frieda Meyer


Frieda D. Meyer, 96, of Eitzen, MN, died Friday, January 25, 2002, at Franciscan-Skemp Medical Center, La Crosse. She was born September 28, 1905 in Jefferson township, MN to William and Mary (Meyer) Beneke. Frieda attended school in Jefferson township. On September 22, 1926, she married Henry Meyer at St. Johnís United Church of Christ, Wheatland. Frieda and Henry lived in La Crosse until 1938 when they moved to rural Caledonia. In 1940 they moved to the Eitzen area and on July 15, 1982, Henry preceded Frieda in death.

Frieda worked at Pottratz Produce in Eitzen for many years. She was a member of St. Lukeís United Church of Christ in Eitzen where she served on the womenís fellowship. Frieda enjoyed playing cards and spending time at senior citizenís events. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and gardening.

Survivors include three sons, Norbert (Doris Ann), Waukon, IA, Merlin, Caledonia, Ronald (Linda), Eitzen; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Meyer, Eitzen; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hilda Cordes, Norma Oitzman, both of Caledonia; two brothers, William (Hilda) Beneke, Eitzen, Walter Beneke, Caledonia.

In addition to her husband, Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Irvin; a daughter-in-law, Lou Meyer; three brothers, Edwin, Louis, and Martin Beneke; and four sisters, Ella Wiegrefe, Alma Kannenberg, Olga Morey and Hanna Wieland.

Services were Monday, January 28, at 2 pm at St. Lukeís United Church of Christ, Eitzen. The Rev. Thomas Zuhlke officiated with burial in the church cemetery. Friends called at Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, on Sunday from 2-5 pm and at the church on Monday from 1 pm until the time of service.
