Herbert Herold

Herbert E. Herold, 76, died January 20, 2002, at his home in Hokah, MN. He was born to Elmer and Elizabeth (Krause) Herold on February 13, 1925 in La Crosse, WI.

Herbert served as a meteorologist in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1947, at which time he received an honorable discharge. After returning to La Crosse he worked at Trane Company for 39 years. He especially enjoyed the time he spent in the inspection department doing gage calibration. After retirement from Trane Company in 1987 he continued to stay active driving bus for Ready Bus Line. He was a member of Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post #595 in La Crescent, the Hokah Lions Club and the Hokah Senior Citizens Club.

Herbert is survived by a son, Steven (Mary) Herold, of Caledonia; two daughters, Connie (Dale) Verse of Hokah, and Linda (Paul) Hegge of La Crosse; two sisters, Betty (Robert) Taylor, of Logan, UT and Carol (Jim) McConnell, of Lebanon, MO; a sister-in-law, Betty (Kenneth) Herold of Stoddard; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice (Smith) Herold, his mother, Elizabeth, father Elmer and a brother, Kenneth Herold.

Services were held at the Dickinson Family Funeral Home, La Crosse, on Saturday, January 26, at 10:30 am. The Reverend David Possing of Hokah Community Church officiated. Friends called at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30 am until the service.
