Avis Unnasch

Avis Unnasch, 91, of Houston died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. She was born on June 11, 1911, at Looney Valley of Houston County, MN, to Hans and Stena (Westby) Feller. Avis was raised at Looney Valley and married Merton Unnash on June 16, 1937 at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church.

She was a lifetime member of the Looney Valley Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, a circle member and active in the Do-Day monthly quilting group. Avis and Merton farmed near Ridgeway until moving to Houston in 1999. Avis enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening and traveling. Her travels included four trips to Europe. She was also a member of the Valley View Nursing Home Auxiliary, where she did mending work.

Avis is survived by three sons, Merton (Heidi), Manterville, MN, Richard (Winnie), Chatfield, and Jerome (Sharon), Houston; two daughters, Faye Foster, Waverly, KY, and Diane (Ron) Wright, Apple Valley; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, George Olson and Myron Unnasch; and two sisters-in-law, Wilma Unnasch and Fern Feller, all of Houston.

Avis was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, and five brothers.

Services were held on Saturday, July 13, 1 pm, at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church in rural Houston with the Rev. Kris Fahey officiating with burial in the Silver Creek Cemetery. Friends called from 5-8 pm on Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
