Dr. Clarence (C.B.) Kurz

Dr. Clarence. B. (C.B.) Kurz, 91, of Caledonia, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at The Lutheran Home, Caledonia. He was born January 24, 1911, in Warren, MN, to Peter and Rose (Muskovich) Kurz. He attended Argyle High School in Argyle, MN, and graduated from St. Maryís University in Winona in the pre-dentistry program. In 1937 he graduated from the University of Minnesota, earning his D.D.S. degree. Dr. Kurz began practicing dentistry in Caledonia in the fall of 1937 and continued for 52 years until his retirement in 1990. He married Joyce E. Brosseau in Minneapolis on his birthday, January 24, 1940. They were married 62 years.

Dr. Kurz was a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. He was in the 97th Infantry and served both in Europe and Japan. As a young man Dr. Kurz enjoyed sports, especially bowling, basketball, softball and ice skating. He also was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman and he enjoyed his hunting dogs. Dr. Kurz was a member of St. Maryís Catholic Church and a past member of the Knights of Columbus, the Caledonia Rod and Gun Club, the Minnesota Dental Association, the American Legion Loveless Eikens Post 191, VFW Post 3833 and Ducks Unlimited.

Survivors include his wife Joyce, of Caledonia, special friends and colleagues Dr. Kemper Cowgill and Dr. Mark Zard, both of Caledonia, and many nieces and nephews around the country.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Margaret, Anne, Clara and Alice and one brother Francis (Frank).

Mass of Resurrection was held 11 am Friday, July 12, at St. Maryís School, Caledonia. Fr. Donald J. Schmitz and Fr. Clayton Haberman concelebrated and burial with military honors was in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends called from 9:30-11am Friday morning at the school.

McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia, assisted the family with arrangements.
