Man admits to firing gunPosted: 7/16/02 An Eitzen man who couldnít find his dogs Sunday, June 23, admitted to firing his gun twice in the air to express his frustration, according to a police complaint. Police say Darrell Latham, 36, was intoxicated when they found him working in his garage after reports that he was firing a gun into the air. He appeared in court charged with three counts of reckless use of a gun, felonies. According to the complaint, Latham was upset that none of his neighbors had called him or brought his dogs back to him. He also began to talk about how shooting a firearm was no different than shooting off fire crackers. He was taken to a crisis receiving unit in Rochester for alcohol detoxification. A loaded 12 gauge automatic shot gun was found in his pickup truck with a live round in the chamber and two more rounds in the magazine. On July 1, he pleaded not guilty to the charges and demanded a jury trial. He is being represented by Attorney Tim Murphy. A pre-trial hearing was set for August 19, at 1 p.m. with a jury trial set for September 12, at 9 a.m. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
