Left over school items going to auctionPosted: 7/30/02 By Shannon McKinney Caledonia High School math teacher Keith Hollatz wonít be able to take his favorite stool to the new school because it doesnít have five legs. But donít expect to find the well worn, 20-year-old stool at the auction either; Hollatz took it home with him. A variety of items in the current high school, for one reason or another will not be going to the new middle school high school. The reason the stool canít go, explained Hollatz, is that stools need to have five legs, and his has four. His stool is actually a chair with a missing back, but because the back is missing, it is considered a stool. If it was a four-legged chair it might be able to go. He said, ìI like my stool. I would use it when I was using an overhead projector.î Hollatz is not the only teacher who has found it hard to part with their well worn furnishings. Other teachers are having to give up the old for the new. The items that have stayed fill the entire current high school gym. They include desks, cabinets, chairs, shelving, old computers, old basketballs and much more. Shelley Jilek, moving coordinator, says although it seems like a lot is being auctioned off, it really isnít when compared with everything that was moved. In fact, Jilek feels that there should have been more items placed at auction, which is scheduled for Friday, August 2, at 4:30 p.m. The proceeds will go directly into the schoolís general budget. The new furnishings that are in the new school were paid for with construction dollars. Construction funds can only be used for construction and related costs such as furnishings. However, proceeds from the auction can be used at the schoolís discretion. ISD #299 Interim Superintendent James Tool said that those who would like to view the auction items beforehand can come an hour early. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
