Alvin Brevig

Alvin Fordyce Brevig, 87, of Caledonia and formerly of Spring Grove, MN, died Monday, July 8, 2002, at Gundersen/Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI. He was born May 17, 1915, in Blackhammer Twp., rural Spring Grove, to Tollef and Mary (Englehart) Brevig. He was a lifelong area resident and was a 1935 Spring Grove High School graduate. On August 24, 1941, he married Vivien LaVerne Omodt in Blackhammer. The couple farmed in Blackhammer Township until retiring in 1978.

Alvin enjoyed woodworking, was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and was very active in both his church and the community.

Survivors include his wife of Caledonia; one son, Fordyce (Marge) Brevig, Spring Grove; six daughters, Mavis (Joe) Wallace, La Crescent, Bev Ann Brevig, Alexandria, Virginia, Mary Lou (Robert) Knight, Cedar Falls, IA, Betty Jean (Allen) Schmidt, Wykoff, Bernice Klug, Spring Grove, and Ardys (Carl) Richards, Duluth; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Maynard Brevig, of Houston.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, Gyneth Brevig.

Services will be Friday, July 12, 11 am, at Faith Lutheran Church of Blackhammer, rural Spring Grove, with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Jim Arends will officiate. Friends may call Thursday, from 4-7 pm at the Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
