Hermina Schmitz

Hermina K. Schmitz, 98, of Caledonia, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at The Lutheran Home, Caledonia. She was born June 13, 1904, in Caledonia to John and Jennie (Palen) Gaspard. She married Lawrence Schmitz at St. Peterís Catholic Church, Caledonia in 1924. He preceded her in death in 1984.

Hermina was a member of St. Maryís Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women.

She is survived by a son, Miles (Lois) Schmitz of Caledonia; two daughters, Virginia (Gaylord) Klein of Caledonia, and Joanne (Larry) Klug, of Bellview, Nebraska; 22 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sr. Lydia Gaspard of Rochester, Mildred Lee and Florence Becker, both of Caledonia.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Willie, a grandson Tom Klein, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Victor and Orville Gaspard, and a sister Loretta Rathake.

Mass of Resurrection will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 14, at St. Maryís Catholic School, Caledonia. Fr. Donald J. Schmitz and Msgr. Donald P. Schmitz will concelebrate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia.

Friends may call from 5-8 pm Saturday at McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia, where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the school on Sunday. Memorials are preferred to St. Maryís Catholic School.
