Holiday weekend keeps law enforcement busy

Brandon Ranzenberger, 25, of Caledonia was charged in District Court Monday, July 7, for resisting arrest and fourth degree assault of a police officer.

The incident occurred July 4 at about 8:00 p.m. during the Eitzen celebration.

Conditional bail was set at $1,000 and unconditional bail at $5,000.

Man injured in motorcycle accident

Mark Olson, 25, of Houston, was taken to the hospital after an accident on State Hwy. 76 on Badger Hill.

It occurred on Tuesday, July 2, at 12:29 a.m.

According to the Houston County Sheriffís Office, Olson said he lost control when he swerved to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle.

One injured in accident

Sara Welper, 21, Dorchester, was taken to the hospital when the vehicle in which she was a passenger was involved in a single vehicle accident on Bangs Road.

Brian Jansen of Spring Grove, 19, was driving the vehicle.

Falls require ambulance

A man was taken to the hospital Monday, July 8, after a fall in the parking lot at Community First Bank in Caledonia.

In another mishap, a man was taken to St. Francis Hospital on Friday, July 5 after falling down the steps of the Houston County courthouseís main entrance. The incident occurred at 2:50 p.m.

Semi blocks road for an hour

A semi truckís failed U-turn in the middle of State Hwy. 44, Monday morning, July 8 blocked traffic for an hour.

The incident happened at 7:04 a.m. when Quinton King of Michigan tried to do a U-turn in the middle of the road by County 12, misjudged the distance and got stuck in the middle of the road.

A wrecker service from La Crosse had to tow him out.

Drug paraphernalia comfiscated by police

An 18-year-old Eitzen man, who was stopped last weekend on State Hwy. 44, by the Caledonia Police Department for having no plates or no temporary registration is now facing drug related charges.

A search of his vehicle revealed a bong, small pipe, a small tin container and one small baggy all containing marijuana residue. There was also a small black scale and a prescription bottle of Zoloft for a person other than the driver.

Man reports being assaulted

A 20-year-old Brownsville man reported being assaulted by a 21-year-old Caledonia man Wednesday, July 3, at 11:45 p.m.

The victim reported agreeing to meet the other individual at the north park in Caledonia to discuss an issue the two had been arguing about.

He said the assailant showed up with a large flashlight and hit him three to four times causing open wounds.

Thefts and vandalism

A Caledonia man reported the theft of his grey 8x12 inch plastic tool box valued at $150. Todd Lemke reported the theft on Wednesday, July 3. The location from which it was taken is unknown. The tools include sockets and wrenches that have the initials DL or D Lemke and have the brand name Craftsman.

Rick Sime reported the vandalism of an air conditioner located outside Caledonia Drugs. He reported it at 1:46 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2. The damage is estimated at $100.
