James Meeks

James M. Meeks, 58, of Houston, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI. James was born on May 19, 1944, in Antigo, WI, to Corbett and Raeburne (Reynolds) Meeks. His father was a logger, so he and his family moved many times. James lived most of his childhood in the Sawbill Landing and Isabella, MN, areas. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. On October 25, 1986, James married Carol Unnasch.

His career was in telephone communications, and was currently employed by CenturyTel. He was a member of the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and the Arnet-Sheldon American Legion, both in Houston. His interests included golfing, fishing, country music and being a practical joker. Everyone who knew him loved him. James will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife; mother Raeburne Meeks, Marinette, WI; one son, Leo (Angie) Meeks, Peshtigo, WI; three daughters, Teesh Vix, Houston, Jyme Jean and Jessica Meeks, both at home; nine grandchildren; eight brothers, Corby, Tom, Jerry, Sam, Buster, Randy, Buck and Faron; five sisters, Sharon, Darlene, Bev, Kriss and Tammy; father and mother-in-law, Arden and Charlotte Unnasch, Houston; two sisters-in-law, Charlene and Sheryl; and many nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his father, one son, Corby, one grandson, Brian, one brother, Chuck, one sister, Marlea, one niece and one nephew.

Services were held Saturday, June 8, 11 am, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Following the funeral service Jamesí body was cremated with burial at a later date. Visitation was from 4-8 pm on Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes-Hou- ston Chapel, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
