Mary Jane Palen

Mary Jane Palen, 69, died on June 7, 2002, in Scottsdale, AZ. Born in Waukon, Iowa, on April 29, 1933, she was the daughter of William and Helen Mulvenna, who preceded her in death. She moved to Arizona with her husband Vernon in 1968. Together they raised six children.

Mary Jane filled her home with love and happiness. She and Vern loved to entertain their many friends and large family. They traveled the world together. Mary Jane was active in the SAE and PEO sororities for many years. She will be sadly missed by her numerous friends.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon; son, Daniel(Cathy) of Fountain Hills, AZ, daughter, Jacalyn (Michael) Stark of Fountain Hills, AZ, son, Dr. Jeffrey (Shari) of Tucson, AZ, daughter, Laura (William) Hicks of Cave Creek, son, Thomas (Carol) of Mesa, AZ and son, David of Scottsdale; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers, John, Michael, Robert and William; and two sisters, Ann and Karen.

She was preceded in death by a brother James.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Liver Transplant and Research Fund c/o Mayo Foundation, 13400 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, AZ 85259. Visitation was held Tuesday, June 11, from 5-8 pm at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, Scottsdale. A Catholic Mass was celebrated at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, Scottsdale, at 2 pm on Wednesday, June 12, followed by graveside services at Paradise Memorial Gardens.
