Founders Days starts Friday

The annual Founders Days celebration kicks off Friday night with the Little Miss and Miss Caledonia pageants. There are 20 young ladies in this yearís Little Miss pageant, which begins at 6:30.

The Volunteer of the Year award will be given between the Little Miss and Miss Caledonia pageants. There will also be a drawing for a clock during the intermission, and root beer floats will be served by the Caledonia Rockets in Gazebo Park.

There are nine contestants vying for the title of Miss Caledonia/Founders Days. That pageant begins at 7:30 p.m.

A dance featuring the Sonic Beats will follow the queenís pageant at Good Times. A cover charge applies.

Buttons are available for $3 and funds are used to help support the Founders Days activities. They are not required for admission.

Saturdayís events include volleyball, softball and soccer tournaments all day. A quilt show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the city auditorium, and kids games take place in the Gazebo Park. At 10:30, Hans Meyer will perform in the park. He is sponsored by the Caledonia Performing Arts Council.

Throughout the day, barbeques chicken by Rooster Andy will be served in the park.

The annual Car, Truck, Motorcycle and Antique Tractor Show will be held from noon to 3 pm. Saturday at Ellingson Motors.

The Grand Parade highlights Saturdayís events. In a change from previous years, the parade begins at 3 p.m. Saturday and will travel down Main Street from the current high school to the Houston County Fairgrounds. The latest parade entries are listed in the special section.

Sundayís events include a Lion Breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. and softball tournaments will continue.
