Sara Jo VanGundy

Sara Jo VanGundy, 21, of Houston, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at the Gundersen-Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, WI, following an asthma attack. Sara was born on May 28, 1980, in Waterloo, IA to Dennis and Janet (Moberly) VanGundy. She lived in Waterloo until shortly after the death of her mother in 1984, when she and her father moved to Houston. Sara graduated from Houston High School in 1998, where she enjoyed participating in sports and cheerleading.

Her interests also included horseback riding, camping, the outdoors, and spending time with her friends and family. Sara especially enjoyed being with the most important person in her life, her seven-month-old son, Deven. In the eyes of her family, Sara was a wonderful, caring mother. She worked at various companies in the area, most recently at WinCraft in Winona.

Sara is survived by her son, Deven; father, Dennis (Cindy) VanGundy, Houston; paternal grandparents, Harold and Delores VanGundy, Houston; maternal grandmother, Rose Moberly, Waterloo; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Her mother, grandfather, Henry Moberly, and uncle, Gary VanGundy, preceded Sara in death.

Services were held on Tuesday, March 19, 11 am at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial was in the Stone Church Cemetery. Friends called from 5-8 pm on Monday at Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
