Gordon Roble

Gordon Ardelle Roble, 74, of Spring Grove, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove. He was born September 11, 1927, in Caledonia to Oscar and Ella (Myhre) Roble. He was a lifelong Spring Grove area resident. He attended Caledonia High School in Caledonia and later graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mortuary Science. In 1950 he started working for Potter Funeral Home in Caledonia and J.A. Engell in Spring Grove and later purchased the Spring Grove Funeral Home. Gordon was a funeral director for 50 years. He was a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy. On September 22, 1951, he married Orla Phillips at Main Street Lutheran in Viroqua, WI.

Gordon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, a past member of Wilmington Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove, past commander of the Spring Grove American Legion, a member of the Sons of Norway, past member of the Spring Grove Telephone Board, the Fire Department and ran the Spring Grove Ambulance Service in conjunction with the funeral home. He owned Haugen-Roble Funeral Home in Caledonia for 10 years in partnership with his son, Alan.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Daniel (Theresa), Cannon Falls, Alan (Judy), Spring Grove and David (Cathy), Edina; two daughters, Brenda (Rod) Lieske, Jordan, and Andrea (Randy) Darling, Richfield; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Leonora Buchholtz and Sophie Moen and one brother, Oscar Lloyd Roble.

Services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 11 am, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove with burial in the church cemetery. Pastors Jim Arends and Zane Anderson will officiate. Friends called Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove and from 10-11 am at the church on Wednesday.
