Robert Renslo

Robert W. Renslo, 62, died of cancer on Friday, March 22, 2002, at his home in McFarland, WI, surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Caledonia on June 15, 1939, the son of Ole and Gunhild (Trehus) Renslo. He graduated from Winona State University where he was a member of the swimming team and an All-American. Bob married Sheryl Anderson of Willmar on December 17, 1967.

A gifted and innovative educator, Bobís teaching career spanned 39 years, including five years teaching at international schools in Germany, Libya and Indonesia. He taught in the McFarland School District for over 25 years where he founded the boys and girls tennis programs in 1973 and served as head coach of both teams from that time up until his death. An avid athlete and competitor, Bob loved all sports, especially tennis. He relished his weekly league matches and playing in Madison area tennis tournaments. Bobís life was distinguished by his service and devotion to his family and students, the unique creativity he displayed in so many areas of his life and especially his kind, generous nature and sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife; children, Adam (Miho Kubota), Oakland, CA, Alexandra, La Crosse, and Elizabeth, Washington, D.C.; a brother, Thomas, Caledonia; sisters, Barbara (Robert) Boyd, Park Rapids, MN, and Ft. Myers, FL and Gertrude (Richard) Franzmeier, Richfield; and many other friends and relatives.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Albert, and sisters-in-law, Edith (Kinkade) Renslo and Helen (Rice) Renslo.

Services were held at Lake Edge Lutheran Church, Madison, at 10:30 am on Tuesday, March 26, with Rev. Richard Blomker presiding. Burial was at the Town of Dunn Burial Grounds. Friends called at Gunderson East Funeral Home from 4-8 pm on Monday, March 25.
