Scot of the Year recognized SaturdayPosted: 3/26/02 By Diana Hammell Vanessa Fleischmann was named ìScot of the Yearî at Caledoniaís eighth annual Scottish Heritage dinner Saturday, March 23. Vanessaís dedication and many hours of work and leadership to help promote the Caledonia community were recognized. Saturdayís honoree was described as having ìa fertile mind, sprinkled lightly with a cup of vision and a dash of purpose along with a charming personality to charm others into participation.î Vanessa is past president of the Caledonia Chamber of Commerce, served on the Caledonia Foundation Board, Community Education Board, on Administrative Recruitment Teams for District 299, was involved with the Caledonia Development Commission and Opportunities Committee, Minnesota Design Team, Scottish Heritage celebration, and is the physiciansí spouses welcoming liaison for the Franciscan Health Care System. Vanessa also created Caledonia Green, through which she is involved in garden tours, plant exchanges, Sprague Woods Development, and beautification of the cityís entryways. Past Scots of the Year presented Vanessa with a caricature drawing of herself, a certificate and a key to the City of Caledonia. The evening also featured performances by the La Crosse Pipe & Drum Band and the La Crosse Girls Choir. Seven Caledonia girls participate with the concert choir and three Caledonia girls are part of the traveling choir and performed Saturday evening.
