Spring Grove woman charged with theft from employer

Posted: 3/26/02

A former bookkeeper for Caledonia Ford faces three counts of theft by false representation for allegedly writing checks from the business for her personal use.

According to the complaint filed March 15 in District Court, Elsie Halverson, 36, of Spring Grove, is accused of writing 14 checks between November 2, 2000 and August 28, 2001 totaling $67,689. The checks were drawn on the Caledonia Ford Account.

Her employer, Randy Myhre, notified Caledonia Police on October 11, 2001 that he suspected an employee of theft. His suspicions were raised after he began getting overdrawn notices from the bank. According to the complaint, Halverson had left for lunch October 9 and had not returned to work.

According to the complaint, checks were written to a Holmen company for a 36' travel trailer, to various credit card companies, for cash, to banks and to Halverson. The checks were signed by Halverson and stamped with Myhreís name or initials, the complaint alleges.

Halverson will appear in District Court on April 17 at 1:00 p.m. She is represented by James Koby.
