Dairy royalty chosen Saturday

The 2002 Dairy Royalty was chosen Saturday evening, March 23, at the annual Dairy Princess Banquet, held in Caledonia at St. Johnís Auditorium. The banquet is sponsored by the Houston County Chapter of the American Dairy Association.

Following farewells from the 2001 Royalty, Tamie Stoltz, Katie Hagen and Lorrie Tewes, the new Dairy Princess, Julie Klug, daughter of Steve and Anna Klug, Spring Grove, was crowned. Her sponsor was Swiss Valley Farms.

Katy Drinkall, daughter of Randy and Kari Drinkall, Rushford, was named Miss Congeniality and was also chosen as one of two attendants. Her sponsor was Swiss Valley Farms.

The other attendant is Jodi Jetson, daughter of Harold and Louise Jetson, Spring Grove, who was sponsored by Farmers Co-op Elevator.

The 2002 Little Miss Squirt is Caitlyn Krueger, daughter of Al and Jody Krueger, Caledonia. She was sponsored by Veterinary Associates.

The court will make public appearances on behalf of the dairy industry to promote dairy products and project a positive image for the dairy industry.

Judges for the event were Allen Meiners and Dainna Smith.

Other awards given Saturday night include the Golden Butterknife Award, which went to Corkyís Pizza and Ice Cream, La Crescent. The Milk Pitcher Award went to Richard and Lynn Johnson in recognition of their efforts on behalf of the dairy industry.

Winner of the dairy poster contest were Brooke Kucicek, grand prize; Leah Emery, first; and Connor Malone, second.
