Richard Lyle Rice, 72, of Caledonia, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at The Lutheran Home, Caledonia. He was born June 18, 1929, in Caledonia, to Edward O. and Mathilda (Aaberg) Rice. Richard was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia, where he has been an active, life-long member. Richard attended schools in Caledonia, graduating from Caledonia High School in 1947. He served in the United States Armed Forces from 1951 until 1953, and was a member of the Loveless-Eikens American Legion Post 191 of Caledonia. On October 31, 1959, he married Helen M. Krueger in Eitzen, Minnesota and together they raised three children. Richard worked as a Journeyman Plumber for many years, and was a member of the United Association, Local 6. After retirement, Richard and Helen enjoyed traveling. They traveled the Northwest to Key West and enjoyed the Southwest the best. Richard reached out to others through his mechanical skills and talents. His toolbox was always ready for the next project. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Survivors include his wife; three children: Robert (Carrie), Cedar Rapids, IA, Christine (David) Pynnonen, Appleton, WI, and Matthew (Melanie), Oconto Falls WI; four grandchildren; two sisters, Jean (Leland) Wenig, Berlin, WI and Carol Meyer, St. Paul; two brothers, John (Muriel) Rice, Minneapolis, and Myron (Jan) Rice, Bettendorf, IA; two sisters-in-law, Colene Rice, Overland Park, KS and Gerry Rice, Minneapolis, a brother-in-law, Tom Renslo, Caledonia and 17 nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen Renslo; and two brothers, Donald and Norman Rice. Services were held Tuesday, May 14 at 11 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Rolf Storlie officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends called at Haugen-Roble-Jandt Funeral Home, Caledonia, on Monday from 5-8 pm and at the church on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of service. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
