Plans being made for Founders DaysPosted: 5/21/02 There will be some changes in this yearís Founders Days celebration, and organizers are hoping the changes generate more interest in the yearly celebration, which will be held this year on June 7-9. One of the most significant changes is that the parade, which is usually held on Sunday, will be held instead at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The route will also be changed from years past. The parade will begin at the current high school and end at the Houston County Fairgrounds. Parade entries are currently being sought. Please contact Jane Schiltz at 725-2002 if interested in having a unit. The traditional Friday night Queen and Little Miss pageant will be held at the auditorium, with the Volunteer of the Year to be announced between the pageants. A dance will follow at Good Times featuring the Sonic Beats. A just-for-fun contest to judge residentsí skills at finding landmarks is also new this year. A series of pictures will be published in the next issue of The Argus which feature details of several buildings or homes in town. See how many you can correctly identify! A special Founders Days section will be published on June 5 with details on all the events planned for this yearís celebration. Many of the popular attractions will return for this Founders Days celebration, including the quilt show; softball, volleyball and soccer tournaments; car show; and kids games and entertainment. Buttons are not required for admission to Founders Days events, but are being sold to help defray expenses. Cost is $3. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
