Weldon Mark, 81, died on Friday, May 10, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. He was born August 9, 1920, in Houston to Rudolph and Elsie (Boldt) Mark. As a young boy his family moved to La Crosse, WI, where he grew up and attended school. He did not like city life; so when school was dismissed on Friday afternoons he would take the train out to Mound Prairie and hike up the hill to his aunt and uncle Boldtís farm. In 1948 he married Ruby Sorum at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church. Ruby and Weldon had two sons, Raymond and Kenneth. Weldon was a farmer for most of his life and loved working outdoors in the fields and with his animals. As well as farming he was employed as a cheesemaker for many years at the Houston-Money Creek Creamery. Weldon was a member of the Circle A Saddle Club for many years and enjoyed taking his family on the many trail rides and shows that they held. He also enjoyed horse pulls and watching his friends compete throughout the years. Weldon loved spending time with his family. Weldon is survived by his wife; two sons, Raymond (Anne), of Houston, Kenneth (RoseAnn) of Waukon; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, LaVerne Hendrickson, Onalaska, WI, Arlene (Edwin) Schumacher, Houston, and Margie Massey, Adamsville, TN; one brother-in-law, Orvin Sorum, Houston; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Monday, May 13, at Hoff Funeral Home in Houston from 5-8 pm. Services were held at the Looney Valley Lutheran Church on Tuesday, 3 pm, with visitation one hour prior to the service with Pastor Kris Fahey officiating. ©The Argus E-Mail: editor.argus@ecm-inc.com |
