James Loken

James A. Loken, 77, of Houston, died Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. James was born on June 5, 1924, in Houston to Martin and Martha (Hilliard) Loken. He was raised in Houston.

James entered the U.S. Army Airborne during WW II. He jumped behind enemy lines into Germany, crossed the Rhine River, Ardenns Forrest and Bastogne with the 17th Airborne. James was with the 11th Airborne with occupation of Japan after the War.

On October 28, 1950, James married Glenis Corey at the Money Creek United Methodist Church in Money Creek. James farmed and was a carpenter. He was also the greens keeper at Valley High Golf course for over 10 years. He was a member of the Money Creek United Methodist Church, the Arnet-Sheldon American Legion Post in Houston and was a charter member of the World War II War Memorial.

James is survived by his wife; three brothers: Glen (Kendra) Loken of Tucson, AZ, Wilbur (Doris) Loken of Houston, and Thomas (Rose) Loken of La Crosse, WI; two sisters: Geraldine (Dale) Greibenow of Rochester, and Imogene (Karl) Carlson of San Jose, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Kenneth, two nieces and two nephews.

There will be a memorial service at 1:30 pm on Thursday, May 30, at Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel with the Rev. Clair Wilcoxon officiating. Burial of his cremated body will be at a later date in the Money Creek Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
