Sheriff Mike Lee was re-elected to a third term in office on November 6, defeating opponent and Sheriffís Office colleague Randy Shefelbine by nearly a two-to-one margin.

Lee attributed the victory, at least in part, to his attempts to refrain from the mud-slinging that marred much of the campaigning in the weeks before the election.

ìI tried to run a positive campaign, because people in Houston County donít like negative campaigns,î Lee said. ìIím sorry to say my opponent and his supporters ran a negative campaign. I still tried to keep my campaign as positive as possible.î

Houston County Sheriff for the past eight years, Lee mentioned that being re-elected allows him and his staff to proceed with the projects and to provide the services that have been the hallmark of HCSO in the past.

ìThe reason we got voted back is that the people in this county are smart enough to see weíre doing a good job,î Lee said. ìThe nice part about it is that we can just continue to do what weíre doing, continue working with the Drug Task Force, and continue working with the Department of Corrections to solve the remaining problems with the jail.î

Leeís opponent, Randy Shefelbine, could not be reached for comment on the election results.
