Accidents result in damaged vehicles, dead deerPosted: 11/13/02 by Andrew Miller A string of car accidents involving deer in the past week has caused thousands of dollars of damage to vehicles in Houston County. Drivers are advised to use extra caution when navigating state and county highways in the coming weeks. A Toyota Tacoma owned by Choua Lee of St. Paul is believed to have sustained over $1000 in damage after striking a deer on State Hwy. 26 on November 10. Despite the damage, the truck was still drivable. On November 8, Steven Sultze of Winona contacted HCSO to report hitting a deer three miles north of Houston on State Hwy. 76. Sultzeís Plymouth Voyager was towed back to Winona after receiving ìsubstantial front end damageî in the accident, according to Houston County authorities. Donald Burroughs of Caledonia called HCSO to report that heíd hit a deer on November 7 while driving his pickup truck on CSAH 3. His vehicle sustained damage to the passenger side; the dollar amount of damage was unknown at the time the incident was reported. Earlier that day, Bruce Eddy of Sheldon reported striking a deer on CSAH 10. The deer was injured badly in the accident, but did not perish immediately; a county deputy arrived on the scene and terminated the deer. Leon Ness of Caledonia contacted HCSO to report that his vehicle had collided with a deer on November 6 at around 5:40 p.m. on State Hwy. 16 in Houston. A damage estimate was not available. At about the same time as Nessí accident, a Caledonia woman reported striking a deer on State Hwy. 16 just outside La Crescent. On November 5, Nicholas Pupp of Houston reported that heíd struck a deer on State Hwy. 16 just outside Houston. The right front end of his Chevy Malibu sustained damage, though the dollar amount of damage was unknown. Just a day earlier another accident on State Hwy. 16 near Houston was reported. Mark Hiser of Houston called HCSO to report that, on the evening of November 4, his daughter had hit a deer just outside Houston on Highway 16. No further information was available. Chainsaws stolen on Main Street Randy Bearbower contacted Caledonia Police on November 6 to report the theft of two chainsaws, taken from his truck parked in front of his home on East Main Street. He noted their disappearance on October 15. The chainsaws are valued at $1300.
