Baldwin Newman Hanson, 87, of Spring Grove, MN, died Wednesday, November 20, 2002, at his home from cancer. He was born September 6, 1915 in Black Hammer, rural Spring Grove, to Carl and Annie (Johnson) Hanson. He was a lifelong area resident and attended rural school in Black Hammer. In 1939 he married Helen O. Storlie at the parsonage in Riceford, MN. Baldwin farmed in the Spring Grove area and ran the Black Hammer Store for 10 years. He was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church in Black Hammer, presently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, was on the township board in Black Hammer for many years, a deacon at Faith Lutheran Church and a member of the Spring Grove Creamery Board. He is survived by his wife Helen, of Spring Grove; two sons, Cletus (Pat) Hanson and Gary (Sharon) Hanson, both of Spring Grove; two daughters, Audrey (Gary) Urness, Winona, and Karen (Doug) Crane of Marion, IA; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Stranberg, La Crosse, WI; and one aunt, Celia Stansfield, Kansas City, MO. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Donald and a brother Arnold. Services will be held Saturday, November 23, 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove with burial in the Trinity Church Cemetery. Pastor Zane Anderson will officiate.
