Stroke screening coming to Caledonia December 3

Posted: 11/26/02

Prevent-A-Stroke, a mobile stroke-prevention clinic, will be making a stop in Caledonia on December 3. The screening will take place in the Caledonia City Council chambers from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Ultrasound technology is used to examine the carotid arteries for a build-up of plaque that could lead to a stroke, which occurs when the blood supply to the brain is blocked or restricted. About 750,000 people have strokes each year, and the majority exhibited no signs or symptoms prior to having a stroke. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the U.S.

Prevent-A-Stroke maintains that it can identify 75-80 percent of people who are likely to have a stroke, and refer them to their physician for treatment options. Tests are $35, or $95 for the entire vascular profile.

For more information or for an appointment, call 1-877-346-3062.

The procedure is painless and takes only a short time.
