Thanksgiving from the turkeyís point of view

Third grade students at St. Maryís have to learn to write different types of paragraphs. One of the hardest is a persuasive paragraph. We decided to try something a little different this year. Weíve always tried to persuade teachers not to give homework, but often the idea of persuasion gets lost. With Thanksgiving being so near, it was decided that we would try to persuade people to eat something other than turkey. We also tried a new point of view, that of the turkey.

Why do they eat turkey anyway? Why canít they just eat chicken? If my friends, family, or cousins get eaten, who will take care of me? I bet they eat us because we are ugly. I wish I wasnít a turkey. There are like a million people trying to eat you. I know why they eat us too. They think that when we say gobble, gobble, we are saying eat me, eat me. Donít eat turkey for Thanksgiving because it is killing us. Please donít eat us, why not eat something else? Why donít you try chicken for a change? What about corn for dinner? On Thanksgiving what do you eat? You eat a turkey, but what you donít know is that turkey really tastes bad. You should never eat turkey. A turkey is bad for you to eat. If you are a hunter you should never hunt turkey either. How would you feel if we hunted you? How would you feel if someone put you in the oven and turned it on? You should not eat turkey for Thanksgiving because they might be my friends. They might even be my family or cousins. If you keep eating turkey they might even be extinct someday. Happy Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is November 28. It is not a good idea to eat turkey. I donít want to be your Thanksgiving dinner. My brothers and sisters donít want to be eaten either. Why canít you just eat ham and mashed potatoes and beans? Being a turkey is very hard work, you know!
