Posted: 11/4/02 Gladys DoeringGladys N. Doering, 90, of Caledonia, died Saturday, November 2, 2002, at the Caledonia Lutheran Home. She was born June 12, 1912, in Highlandville, IA, to Gilbert and Joran (Traaen) Gjere. Gladys was baptized and confirmed at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church and attended the Highlandville School through the eighth grade. On November 29, 1933, she married Henry C. Sivesind in Spring Grove and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1952. Gladys lived on a farm in rural Spring Grove and later moved into Spring Grove where she worked for Mansfield Industries for several years. On November 19, 1960, she married Howard W. Doering at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They then moved to Caledonia and Gladys worked for Genglerís Cold Storage for many years. On March 19, 1979, Howard preceded Gladys in death. In June of 2001, she became a resident of the Roseview Court in Caledonia and in September of 2002, she moved to the Caledonia Lutheran Home. Gladys was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Caledonia where she served on the Altar Guild, WELCA, and helped out with the church Do-Day. She was well known as the ìlefsa ladyî and enjoyed making all the Norwegian baked goods. Gladys also enjoyed crocheting, making afghans and quilts, playing cards and spending time with her ìJolly Widowsî group and senior citizens. Survivors include one daughter, Bernice (Harley) Doering, Caledonia; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ted (Inez) Gjere, Decorah, IA, and James (Florence) Gjere of Beloit, WI. In addition to her first and second husbands, Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Cora Christopherson, Nettie Mestad, Annie Roney and Gyda Losen; and four brothers, Arthur, Gilford, Lloyd and Harold Gjere. Services will be Saturday, November 9, at 11 a.m. from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia with the Rev. Rolf Storlie officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Grove. Friends may call at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
