Law enforcement officials kept busyPosted: 10/23/02 by Andrew Miller A series of thefts in the past 10 days has kept local authorities busy. Though many of the incidents are as menial as pumpkin theft, several reports of breaking and entering have have kept law enforcement officials on the move. Caledonia resident Lindsay Meyer reported on October 17 that her father Alan Meyerís cabin on CSAH 5 in Winnebago Valley had been broken in to. Martha Ballou reported to Houston County authorities on October 19 that sometime during the past week her New Albin cabin had also been broken in to. Both cases are still under investigation. Rod Blank of La Crescent met with La Crescent police and Houston County authorities on October 14 to report that his 1998 Honda had been stolen in La Crosse. On October 16, Spring Grove resident Roger Becker reported to Houston County authorities that, sometime between October 8 and October 15, someone stole his Roto-Tiller, valued at $1400, from the front porch of his home. Car/deer collision ends in damage, death Joyce Johnson of Hokah reported to law enforcement officials that on October 17 she hit and killed a deer with her van. She sustained no injuries and believed the damage to her vehicle to be less than $1000. An anonymous caller reported a car accident on CSAH 7 near Hokah on October 15 at about 7:30 p.m., in which a car struck a deer. Less than two hours later Sarah Holland of Spring Grove reported sheíd struck a deer on CSAH 25 near La Crescent, causing damage to the headlights and the front end of the vehicle. She was driving the News 19 Blazer at the time. On October 16 just before 8 a.m., Mary Kruse of Eitzen contacted Houston County authorities to report that her husband Dennis hit a deer with the coupleís pickup truck on CSAH 2 near Caledonia. Kruse reported over $1000 in damage, including damage to the front end, the passenger door, and the passenger panel. Arlin Peterson reported heíd struck a deer on State Hwy. 76 in Money Creek Township on October 14. The deer survived the accident and scampered off into the woods with no noticeable injuries. Petersonís vehicle sustained damage to the grill and the headlights, though he believed the dollar amount of the damage was under $1000. Dog attack in Mabel Jeremy Lee of Mabel contacted Houston County authorities to report that his neighborís Rottweiler came into his yard, killed his cats, and attacked his dog.
