Calling all musiciansñ the Caledonia Community Band is looking for members. Wipe the dust off that tuba, dig the trombone out of the closet, unearth the glockenspiel buried in your backyard. Do what you need to do, but do it quick; practice sessions are beginning soon for this unique musical experience.

ìItís just going to be something fun, recreational, and low pressure,î said Richard Daily, the bandís director. ìWeíre looking to get people playing again who maybe havenít picked up their instruments in 15 years. Weíre looking for band alumni or new people in town.î

Daily, who is also director of the band at Caledonia Middle/High School, brings a rich background in music to his role in the community band. He served as a teaching assistant to music classes for two years at the University of Kansas, where he also earned his masters degree. He is a member of the Minnesota Music Educators Association, and is a substitute with the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra, in which he plays percussion. Daily hopes for the community band to grow substantiallyñ there are at present only seven members, and the target number is between 20-25ñ and he urges anyone with a background in music to become a member.

ìWe donít have many opportunities musically in this area, so we wish to create that avenue for people to perform and have fun,î Daily said.

The Caledonia Community Band meets on Tuesdays from 6-7:30 in the CHS band room. Two concerts have already been scheduled for the coming yearñ a holiday pops concert on December 15, and a Spring pops concert on May 25. The annual membership fee is $40, those interested in joining should contact Cindy Frank in the Community Education Office at 725-5139.
