High-speed chase through Eitzen ends in scuffle, arrestPosted: 9/10/02 by Andrew Miller A Houston County deputy pursued a vehicle traveling at high speed on CSAH 2 in the early hours of Wednesday, September 4. The driver refused to pull over and, in an attempt to evade authorities, turned his lights off as they approached Eitzen. The chase continued through Eitzen on Highway 76 into Iowa and, 1.1 miles into Iowa, the driver pulled over, exited the vehicle, and engaged in a brief scuffle with the deputy. The driver tested positive for alcohol, blowing a .192 on the breathalyzer. He was taken into custody by Allamakee County authorities and was cited for speeding, reckless driving, fleeing an officer, and DWI. The vehicle was towed to the Sheriffís garage and impounded. A one-car accident was reported to Houston County authorities on Monday, September 2, at 2:43 p.m. The vehicle ran off the road on CSAH 4 a half-mile south of Black Hammer. The driver received a minor injury and was transported to Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, where she was treated and released. Authorities believe driver inattentiveness caused the accident. On September 5, a La Crescent woman reported she had been involved in a two-car accident on CSAH 25. Driving behind a Chevy truck in her Ford Escort, a dog ran out in front of the first vehicle, at which point the driver applied the brakes. The woman ran into the back of the truck with her car. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and there were no injuries. Property Thefts A red flag was taken from the residence of a Caledonia man sometime between 10 p.m. on August 30 and 4 p.m. on August 31. The flag is valued at $40, is 3'x 4' in size, and bears a large ì8,î the number of stock-car racing legend Dale Earnhardt, Jr., to whom the flag is a tribute. A Caledonia woman reported that her vehicle on Sunrise Lane had been broken into on the evening of Sunday, September 1. A Pioneer AM-FM radio had been taken and the interior ceiling light had been damaged. No further information was available. Damage Done to Fields On Thursday, September 5, a Caledonia man reported damage done to his bean field. Someone had apparently driven through his field with a four-wheeler, causing extensive damage. A similiar incident was reported on Saturday, September 7.
