Charles W. Evans, 68, of La Crescent died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. Charles was born on January 21, 1934, at Money Creek, MN, to Harold and Florence (McElmury) Evans. He graduated from Houston High School in 1951 and from Winona State College in 1966. He taught for two years at La Crescent High school. Charles operated Evans Orchard for seven years and then sold the business. He was an over the road truck driver for 24 years. On October 25, 1952 he married Amy Carlson at the South Ridge E.U.B. Parsonage in rural La Crescent. He was a member of the South Ridge United Methodist Church in rural La Crescent where he had served on the church board. He is survived by his wife; two sons: Mark, of Hokah, and Jon, of Coral Springs, FL; two grandsons; one sister, Lois (Ivan) McElhiney, La Crescent; two nephews; four great nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Charles was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, at the South Ridge United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lora Sturm officiating. His cremated body will be placed in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in La Crescent at a later date. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral Homes-Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
