Drivers encouraged to watch for deer

Deer in Houston County made their presence known to drivers in Houston County this past week, resulting in three auto accidents. Drivers are advised to be on the lookout for deer crossing state and county highways.

Cynthia Grubbs of Onalaska reported striking a deer along CSAH 6 on the morning of September 20. Grubbs was uninjured, though the deer was killed. Her vehicle was driveable after the accident, but damage done to the vehicle is estimated at $1000, Houston County authorities said.

On September 7, Amy Peterson of Houston contacted Houston County authorities to report that she had hit a deer on State Highway 76 that evening. Houston County authorities believe that the deer survived the accident. No further information was available.

Donald Humm of La Crosse reported striking a deer with his motorcycle along CSAH 21 on September 21. No injuries were sustained, but damage to the motorcycle is estimated at over $1000.

Bad week for bike owners

Raymond Pichens reported to Caledonia police that his sonís bicycle had been stolen from the Caledonia Middle/High School on September 19. The bike is a chrome Haro freestyle with front and rear pegs and is valued at $600.

On the evening of September 16, Yvette Miller notified Caledonia police that damage was done to her bicycle, which was parked on West Grove Street. Damage to the gear shift mechanism, the left pedal and the front brake was estimated at $30.

A very bad hair day

Principal Brian Doty reported to Caledonia police that a female studentís hair had been set on fire in the school on September 20. A full investigation is in progress.
