Martha Garness

Martha Clarissa Haugstad Garness, 85, of Spring Grove, died Sunday, September 29, 2002, at Tweeten Health Services in Spring Grove, of a lengthy illness. She was born September 18, 1917, to Sarah (Vick) and John Haugstad. She was a lifelong Spring Grove area resident. On March 11, 1935, she married Clarence B. Garness, he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and had worked at Argus-Mansfield Industries in Spring Grove. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer, rural Spring Grove, its womenís groups, and a member of the Tweeten Hospital Club.

Survivors include one son, David (Stephanie) Garness, Rochester; five daughters, Charmaine (Ordell) Blagsvedt, Caledonia, Sandra (Romaine) Wenig, Spring Grove, Susan (Barry) Dahl and Pamela (Charles) Lamb, both of Rochester, and Linda (Larry) Seegmiller, Mantorville; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Enster (Gertrude) Haugstad and Robert (Helen) Wiste, both of Spring Grove.

In addition to her hsuband, she was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, a step-granddaughter, a son-in-law and a grandson-in-law.

Services will be held Wednesday, October 2, at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church of Black Hammer, rural Spring Grove with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Zane Anderson will officiate. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
