Posted: 8/22/03 Eleanore JanikowskiEleanore M. Janikowski, 88, of Lansing, MI, formerly of Caledonia, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at Diamondale Care Center, near Lansing. She was born September 13, 1914 in Winona, MN, to Elmer and Lucy (Piechowski) Severson. She married Lawrence Janikowski October 24, 1946 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Winona. Eleanore received a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and a Masters degree in nursing from Yale. She served her country in the Army Air Force as a flight nurse from 1943-1946. She taught nursing at St. Teresaís College, Winona, Winona State University and Rochester Community College and she worked as a school nurse in Caledonia. Eleanore lived in Caledonia from 1953 until 1985 when she moved to Lansing. She was a member of the American Legion and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. She is survived by her husband Lawrence of Lansing; her children: Theresa Voss, Vevey, Switzerland, John (Valerie) Janikowski, Kwajalien, Marshall Islands, Mary (Sandy) Bird, Needles, CA, Sheila (Bill) Johnson, Lansing, and Larry (Carla) Janikowski, Columbus, IN; eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Locke, and two sisters, Violet Eppleheimer and Virginia Matchilles. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 23, at St. Maryís Catholic Church, Caledonia. Father Donald J. Schmitz will officiate and burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday at McCormick Funeral Home, Caledonia, where a rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday.
