La Crescent man faces sexual misconduct chargesPosted: 8/5/03 A La Crescent man was charged with third degree criminal sexual conduct following an investigation by La Crescent Police last week . Jamal Sanders, 29, La Crescent, faces of a maximum of 15 years imprisonment and/or $30,000 in fines if convicted. A woman reported to La Crescent Police on July 30 that Sanders had sexually assaulted her at her La Crescent home two days earlier. She indicated sheíd previously met Sanders at a La Crosse bar and had recently been on one date with him. She told police that, sometime before 8 a.m. Monday morning, Sanders asked if he could visit her home before he went to school for the day. The woman further told police that, as soon as Sanders arrived, he began making sexual advances, despite her repeatedly telling him ìno,î and that he eventually engaged in sexual contact with her against her will. After a sexual assault examination was conducted on the woman at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse on July 30, she was asked by police to identify the suspect in a six-person photo line-up. The photo she identified was a photo of Sanders. Later that day, La Crescent Police located Sanders and placed him under arrest for probable cause sexual assault. A charge of third degree criminal sexual conduct was filed July 31. Sanders was placed in custody at the Houston County Jail, and conditional bail was set at $7500.
